Self love is definitely not something we gain overnight. It honestly will take work and time to truly love yourself. Not so long ago I felt like I was just wasn’t enough, my wonderful mum shared these wise words with me:

“Krissy what are you doing? You are unique, you are precious and you need to stop trying to find external factors to make you happy and open your eyes to your internal happiness because it’s always been you who’s held the key.”

Never forget that you only ever have to be enough for you! This isn’t about them or anyone else, this is about you finding happiness and love from within. That is true love. Remember, you are wonderful just as you are. You will always have the love and support from your EvolveYou familia, but first you must do this for you!

Here our beautiful ambassadors share some of their favourite self love tips, to help you on your own journey to self love.

Positive Notes: I love sticky tabs/post its!!! You can put them anywhere and I do. I put them in my car, mirror, fridge, etc. I write encouraging notes or positive things about myself. “I am strong” “I am beautiful” “I am a woman” “I am a warrior” “Chin up beautiful” “Nice butt” “Dream More” etc. I even make them for my hubby as he does for me. These notes really make me smile & sometimes remind me of who I am & what I believe in. When I don’t feel that way I’ll say the sticky note out loud to myself 3x & it really helps my mood.

Getting a good night's rest: I love sleep. The better my sleep the better my physical and emotional well being. Sleep plays a huge role in your emotions. Sleeping improves emotional and mental health. This means reading, drawing, journaling for the hour before bedtime. Every night I take the time to write down 3 things I was grateful for throughout my day. I challenge myself to not write the same thing. This helps me pay attention to all the blessings that come each and everyday. No screens before bed for me.

Here are also some of my personal favourite self love quotes:

‘Her time. She has been feeling it for a while now--that sense of awakening. There is a gentle rage simmering inside her, and it's getting stronger by the day. She will hold it close to her--she will nurture it and let it grow. She won't let anyone take it away from her. It is her rocket fuel, and finally she is going places. She can feel it down to her very core--this is her time. She will not only climb mountains--she will move them too.’

‘You are free. You are powerful. You are good. You are love. You have value. You have purpose. All is well.’

‘A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.’

Turn off my phone: Whenever I am with friends I try to turn off my phone or leave it in my pocket or bag so I can focus on the moment. I rather bring my camera to capture moments because I won’t get distracted by notifications. Also, when I’m at home I have a “no phone in the bedroom” rule and some days I turn it off completely just to leave the screen and be in the present! The phone isn’t everything, take care of your mind by leaving it in the bag.

Clean my home: A clean home is EVERYTHING! And by clean I mean DEEP CLEAN! Every corner, every closet, everything! You’ll feel so at peace when you can leave and come home to a clean home.

Journal my thoughts, ideas and plans: My apartment is filled with journals with all my thoughts and ideas! To take that little time to clear your head and put it on paper is so underrated. You will prioritize yourself for a bit and see in text all the amazing things you can both accomplish and work towards. Also, for those extra hard days you can always go back to the notes and see where you wanted to go and get back on track with some help from your former self!

And my little reminder to you all:

‘Don’t forget to smile, it looks good on you!’

Working out: I’m not always motivated BUT every single time I’m done with my workout my mood completely shifts and I am happier and more energized

Taking care of your appearance: it’s important for me, and it does boost my confidence when my hair, nails, skincare routine and makeup are on point.

My favourite self love quote:

‘Change your thoughts and your world will change.’
I think this quote is so powerful and it truly is true. As soon as you start to view yourself and everything around you in a positive matter, the world you live in becomes a better and happier place...fact: you attract what you are!

@jackieedavis

Writing down exactly how I feel: It really helps me make sense of things and what’s really big and what’s really small. And sometimes seeing patterns.

It’s not “self care Sunday”: Self care & self love do not start or end on Sunday it’s every day in all your choices. (Like what you eat, how you use your time, what you decide to say yes or no to).

A self love quote that has always got me by:

“I am exactly where I am supposed to be.”

@rachelvsymons

Talk to friends and share your problems: they have the best advice and always give the boost I need.

Take time to unwind: I love to watch one of my favourite films or read a book, snuggled on the sofa. Getting lost in a story is one of my favourite ways to relax.

My favourite self love quote:

‘Love yourself first and everything else falls in line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.’ - Lucille ball.

Fun fact, I actually have love yourself first tattooed on me!

@sophiiegrace

Wake up and look in the mirror: I'm teaching myself not to be so critical, so every morning I get up, get ready, look in the mirror and go through 5 things I love about myself. Whether these are mental, physical or characteristics I love about myself, it has definitely helped.

Going to the gym: This is the ultimate me time. A time where I can go, work on myself, for myself and spend some time with my own thoughts. I love moving my body, releasing those endorphins and hitting the complete button on my workout and gaining my star. For me, building strength both physically and mentally is super important, and that's why I love working out.

This self love quote from my own experiences holds very close to my heart:

‘Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do’ - Brené Brown

Loving yourself can be challenging at times but self love is such an important part of our lives. In order to help take care of myself and work on loving myself I like to set aside a few minutes each morning without my phone and remind myself that I am strong, powerful, independent, and capable of anything I set my mind to.

I also love listening to podcasts as they help me have a stronger, more positive outlook on life.

"You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection." ~ Buddah
