As we all know water is essential for a healthy life. Water is vital for our bodies to properly function, including the function of our brains, blood, joints and temperature. Our bodies are actually made up of around 60% water! So as you can imagine it is so important to ensure that we get enough of it. The NHS recommends that in climates such as the UK to drink between 6-8 glasses of water, however for warmer climates they recommend more.

Here are a few tips to ensure that you meet your daily intake:

1. Infuse your water.

A lot of people just simply don’t enjoy drinking water. So make it more tasty by adding a little flavour. Here are some of my personal favourites:

Watermelon and mint (mint has digestive benefits and anti-inflammatory properties, watermelon helps you hydrate and may help relieve muscle soreness)
Raspberry and strawberry (raspberry and strawberries contain antioxidants)
Lemon and ginger (lemon is great for your skin and a good source of vitamin C, and ginger may help balance blood sugar)

2. Set a timer on your phone to remind you to drink your water.

I personally set mine for every 2 hours between 9am and 6pm. Initially I had ‘Drink some water’, but I quickly began to ignore it, so I made it more fun by little notes like ‘Hydrate & glow!’ and ‘Have a little more water you hydrated angel’. You can also add little notes with the benefits of drinking more water such as ‘Water helps boost your energy and mood - drink up’ or ‘Drink more water, it can impact your focus and alertness’.

3. Get yourself a cute water bottle.

Ok this may sound silly, but having a nice water bottle may encourage you to drink more water, bonus it’s much better for the environment too than to buy plastic bottles of water. There are so many different types of water bottles out there now too, from gallon sized bottles, glass bottles, straw bottles, even crystal bottles. So find one that connects best to you and keep topping it up until you reach your goal.

4. Use the water tracker feature on the EvolveYou app.

This is such a wonderful tool as it allows you to visually measure the amount of water you are drinking. Why not even share it on the EvolveYou community page to help hold yourself and others accountable?

5. Eat your water.

Along with drinking water, you can also eat your water too. Here is a list of delicious fruits and vegetables to help you reach your hydration goals:

Lettuce: 96% water
Celery: 95% water
Zucchini: 95% water
Cabbage: 92% water
Watermelon: 91% water
Cantaloupe: 90% water
Honeydew melon: 90% water

I hope these tips help you on your hydration journey. Don’t forget to check out our very own nutritionist Nicole’s blog on ‘The Importance of Staying Hydrated’. Now go drink some water you beautiful hydrated boss babe!
